LAKE MARY - The second annual Kitson & Partners Clubs/Orlando Magic Free Golf Day netted a donation of $10,772 to the Orlando Magic Youth Fund.

On Monday, July 27, four Kitson & Partner courses, including Timacuan Golf Club in Lake Mary, offered free golf while accepting donations to the Orlando Magic Youth Fund, a fund of the McCormick Foundation.

Chris DiMarco and friends had another successful year at the Norma DiMarco Tee up For Life event. The charity tournament held at the Country Club at Heathrow on Monday, Nov. 2 raised more than $330,000, bringing the event's nine-year total to more than $4 million.

The annual outing, named for Chris DiMarco's mother who died in 2006, included a celebrity pairing party on Nov. 1 followed by a golf clinic and 18-hole shotgun tournament at the PGA Tour star's home course on Nov. 2.

A benefit golf tournament is taking place on Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009 at the award-winning Shingle Creek Golf Club in Orlando. The tournament will benefit Jyllean Williams who was diagnosed with Mercury poisoning two years ago and has since developed Multiple Chemical Sensitivity and Epstein Barr Virus.

At just 24 years of age, her life has literally been taken away from her. The symptoms Jyllean has are horrible. Her body can’t physically handle being around a lot of people or toxic smells. Thus, she is basically homebound except for her numerous doctor visits.  

Central Florida's Winter Park Country Club will welcome five-time PGA Tour winner Ken Green as part of its Golf Lecture Series presented by the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children. The appearance is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 11.

In June 2009, Green was seriously injured in a grizzly motor vehicle accident that claimed the lives of his brother William, his girlfriend Jeanne Hodgin, and his German Shepherd Nip.

Golfers today are constantly bombarded with fancy marketing messages from equipment manufactures vying for their business. Amidst all the flash and hype, how can the average player know what will actually help their game? It can be difficult to differentiate the gimmicks from those products that offer a true technological advancement. On your next visit to the practice putting green try this “Make your Statement” putting drill, it will help you judge slope better, read greens better, and develop a repeating stroke along a straight line.

Select a putt of approximately 20 to 30 feet. Select a putt that has slope similar to the greens you play on the course. You will need 3 balls for this drill. Set 1 ball down for the first putt with the 2 extra balls fairly close and retrievable for the next 2 putts (Figure 1).

You have to build relationships, so why not use golf? Most business professionals who are in the financial planning business, real estate business, insurance business, or any other consumer-based business cannot justify treating every client and/or prospect to a round of golf. But they need to get in front of a lot of consumers to be successful. The following are a few secrets about using golf to accomplish this objective (even if you happen to have a healthy expense account, there will be some ideas that will help).

Organize a One-a-Month Golf Outing
Once-a-Month Golf Outings are great for businesses that are geared toward local consumers such as financial planners, real estate agents, insurance agents, accountants, golf professionals, bankers, general contractors, attorneys and retailers. They allow these business professionals to spend time with their clients, prospects and friends in a relaxed setting without spending a lot of money.

The Eagle Creek Golf Course, located at Eagle Creek on Narcoossee Rd. in southeast Orlando, is hosting the Lake Nona High School golf team for weekday practice sessions and competitive matches

David Collins, director of sales at Eagle Creek Golf Club, said the season just finished for the Lake Nona High School golf team.

"This group is very disciplined and very dedicated," Collins said. "I won't be surprised if they turn into top contenders next year," he added.

Some stars may already be emerging. The girls and boys teams played seven matches each during the past season, Collins said, and one golfer, a freshman on the girl's team, shot a birdie on the first hole she played in her first competitive match.

Disney Hosts Successful Reality Series

ORLANDO - Tiger Woods, Davis Love III, Lucas Glover and Vijay Singh have all won majors championships, and each has also experienced victory at the Children's Miracle Network Classic held annually at Walt Disney World Resort.

The Classic is played on the Magnolia Course at Walt Disney World Resort, which will serve as the setting for the 12th installment of the Golf Channel's popular Big Break reality series. The show will air Tuesdays at 10 p.m. EST.
