Remington Golf Club & Kissimmee Bay Country Club

Two Diverse Challenges Right Down the Street

Remington Golf Club - Kissimmee, FLOne plays hide-and-seek with century-old oaks, the other teases you with tie-wall bulkheaded greens bordered by water. One invites you to play all day for one low price, the other welcomes you into golf’s great history.

Yet, Kissimmee Bay Country Club and Remington Golf Club are located less than a mile apart, both centrally located just 15 minutes down the Florida Turnpike from downtown Orlando, 20 minutes from Disney World and just 10 minutes from the airport. Both courses are located on the west bank of Lake Tohopekaliga in Kissimmee and pride themselves on doing the little things right (like taking the care to walk-mow their greens) and the bigger things better (like completely overseeding in the winter to keep the rough lush and green all year round).

“I thought I must write to thank you and your staff once again for the excellent treatment I, my family and friends received from you all on our recent visit back to Florida from England. Your hospitality, friendliness and professionalism really is a credit to you all at Remington and Kissimmee Bay. The courses and greens were in excellent condition and we all thoroughly enjoyed playing them again.”
– B. Wilson

It isn’t very often you can find two very different golf challenges that share a zip code, especially in Central Florida, where much of the real estate is so similar. The one thing these two have in common is the acclaim each course is getting, especially from the golfers who’ve made this pair their home-away-from-home: “It goes way beyond the “All You Can,” it’s the terrific course conditions and the personnel from your club. They actually seem to be having a fun time and treat us with a smile. We play many courses and we rarely see total courtesy and commitment to making the guests feel welcome.”
– Bob S.

Kissimmee Bay Country Club - Kissimmee, FLKissimmee Bay Country Club is semi-private, with a thriving membership that gets the added value of dual membership to Remington. A friendly club atmosphere pervades at Kissimmee Bay with a “game” available almost anytime and great programs for beginners, juniors and women. How many clubs have their own golf museum? The history of golf, from Florida and around the world, is on display at the Langley Golf Museum. Visitors will find an eclectic collection of more than a thousand pieces of golf memorabilia, ranging from antique clubs and balls to historic photos and colorful postcards from courses around the globe.

What’s interesting is, despite having the same architect’s finger prints on them, each course has its own unique look. One of Central Florida’s premier designers, Lloyd Clifton, laid out Kissimmee Bay and was the co-designer of Remington, along with son George and Ken Ezell, landing Remington at the top of Golf Digest’s list of “Best New Courses.” Clifton came up through the ranks as a horticulturist and superintendent first, and his love of landscaping is evident at both courses.

You’ll also notice as you play how efficient Clifton was in his designs, often using the ponds and lakes on each course to challenge you more than once. Clifton loves water more than the famous Florida gators, with marshland or lakes in-play on every hole at Remington and 15 of the 18 at Kissimmee Bay, creating a wonderful variety of risk-reward opportunities.

Both Kissimmee Bay and Remington have been local favorites for years, claiming to be the “friendliest courses in town.” Remington has also built a reputation as home of the one-of-a-kind “All You Can” plan that invites you to play, practice and even eat all you can for one low price. And All-You-Can is all-thetime at Remington.

Remington Golf Club - Kissimmee, FL

“I must share with you just how much all of the staff at Remington really made the “all you can” experience such a pleasure. Everyone truly supports the “all you can” philosophy and it made us want to come back as well as tell all our “snow bird” friends about Remington. All of the staff are enthusiastic and genuinely wanted us to enjoy the full “all you can” experience. And of course, we did.”
–Karen

At Remington, those aforementioned risk-reward opportunities come early and often thanks to five sets of tees that stretch the par-72 course from just under 5,200 yards to over 7,100. The par-3 second requires anywhere from 88 yards to 192 from tees wrapped around a lake.

“If we had known that the course was in this kind of condition we would have cancelled our other tee times... The greens were impeccable”
–Richard Gilbert

Kissimmee Bay Country Club - Kissimmee, FLWhile the look is very open and palm-lined at Remington, Kissimmee Bay brings historic old oaks into play on the very first tee, a long par-5 with a sharp dogleg left on the approach to the first of many enormous greens that can alter your shot selection by 2 or 3 clubs. On the back side, Clifton shapes four fun shot-making holes around and between five ponds enclosed by Lee Janzen Drive (the Orlando native had the street named after him even before he won the first of his two U.S. Opens). Then you get to take in the breathtaking view off the tee of the par-3 16th across Lake Tohopekaliga.

“On behalf of Jean-Philippe, Alexandre, Francis and myself, I would like to thank you very much for your wonderful hospitality when we visited your club last week. The kids were traveling for the first time out of the country and your gesture made them appreciate their trip even more. They really enjoyed your course. They have been talking about how friendly and positive people from the States are. Thanks to you for contributing to this perception.”
– Pierre Brisebois, President of the Quebec PGA Coaches & Teachers Division

We’ve all learned the great restaurant lesson that to find the best food, look where the locals eat. It holds true for Orlando-area golf as well. The locals love it for two reasons. In the words of the architects, it’s a “test for the best, but fair to the rest.” Plus, over a hundred corporate and charitable outings are held annually at each course, many coming back year after year, attesting to the commitment of the local ownership to the Kissimmee area. But local play is far from their only focus. Their Web site offers numerous Stay-and-Play packages for visitors and Director of Operations and part-owner Mark Farrow, an Ontario native, loves to hear from fellow Canadians visiting Central Florida.
