The landscape in Florida is littered with golf courses, making it difficult to discern the distinguishable characteristics that set one apart from another.

So it bears repeating if a Florida course is recognized, especially as a highly-anticipated newcomer to the scene.

Juliette Falls Golf and Spa Community located in the beautiful Ocala countryside, has already earned a sterling reputation despite only being in operation for a few months.

In the January 2008 issue of Golf Magazine the dramatic, new, semi-private golf club designed by John Sanford was selected among the “Top 10 New Courses You Can Play.”

“Golf Magazine’s recognition of Juliette Falls as one of the Top 10 New Courses You Can Play is a fitting testimony to this wonderful site and the time and effort give to it by magnificent architect John Sanford,” said Tom Cioffi, Director of Operations for Juliette Falls.

“To bring his vision to life, John put together one of the best construction teams in the business with Gary Kessener as the final shaper,” added Cioffi. “Seeing Juliette Falls along side of this year’s field of finalists is quite a thrill. We are truly honored.”

Not since the creation of the vaunted and exclusive Jupiter Hills Club in 1970 has a dramatic new golf club created so much anticipation in Florida.

The course’s inaugural event, the Juliette Falls Pro-Am Classic, played host to 17 past and present PGA TOUR players. Only three of them managed to break par but still came away with a favorable impression of the course.

Fred Funk, a fan favorite and winner of eight PGA TOUR events, described the greens as “great” even after shooting a 76. “I never had a chance to practice, but aesthetically the course was great,” Funk said. Asked about some of the seemingly challenging, undulating greens, Funk added, “There were quadrants you had to hit into. If you hit the quadrants, you were fine.

“I played great from tee-to-green. I just had trouble putting, that’s all.” Juliette Falls meanders over a portion of the 54 acres of equestrian land in the Ocala countryside. The area features rolling terrain and horse farms similar to that of Kentucky bluegrass horse country.

Golf Magazine said of Juliette Falls: “Architect John Sanford coaxed a classic parkland layout from gently rolling terrain, and while there are a few bells and whistles – four waterfall features and eye-catching waste bunkers dotted with shrubbery and wire grass – the course’s strength lies in the variety of its par-4s and the standout quartet of par-3s, two of which feature Daliesque greens that seemingly melt into the water.”

The 18-hole championship golf course is 7,236 yards from the Viking tees. It boasts a 10 acre practice complex with North and South tees and two short game areas.

Five sets of tees are available to accommodate all levels of players. The course will allow limited public access during the membership build-out period.

The official grand opening of Juliette Falls Golf and Spa Community was held October 17-21, 2007. Over 1500 people toured the community and hundreds played the pristine golf course.
